The couple suffered over 90 percent burns and succumbed to burns at 7.30pm on Sunday evening at GMCH-32. No police complaint has been lodged.

Investigating officer Gurmail Singh said, “When family members went to sleep after watching TV and put their mobile on charging, the fire broke out after short-circuit in the wire passing over the bed. The family slept through the fire.”

However, later Surender Kaur gained consciousness and raised an alarm. She woke up the family and started to scream, after which villagers gathered and broke the door of the house to rescue the family.
