Three youth in their 20s were killed in a road accident at Hanumangarh in Rajasthan, situated 121km from here, on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Nitin Teria (son of a former president of Muktsar municipal committee Shammi Teria), Saurabh Pruthi and Bhushan Gowri, all from Muktsar.
Two people, identified as Saurabh Pathela and Munish Khurana, received multiple injuries. The injured are undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Bathinda.
They started their journey to Salasar Dham temple in Rajasthan at 11pm from Muktsar, on Saturday night.
The accident happened at 2am, when some stray cattle came in front of their Maruti Swift Dezire car. The police said that the driver lost control of the vehicle after hitting the cattle before smashing into the tree.
The three dead were sitting on the rear seat.
The impact of the incident could be gauged from the fact that the car completely damaged in the incident and it took around two hours for police and locals to extricate bodies by using cutters.
The mutilated dead bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family members.
