Five persons were killed and four injured in two road accidents in the district on Sunday. Three members of a family were killed and one injured when a scooter they were travelling in was hit by a Mahindra Logan on the Jalandhar-Phagwara bypass. The deceased were identified as Paramjit Singh (42), his wife Kamaljit Kaur (36) and son Harsh (9).

The couple's 11-year-old daughter Vaishali was critically injured and is admitted to the civil hospital here. Eyewitnesses said the speeding Mahindra car (HP 14-A 5921) first hit the scooter (PB 07 D 0132) and then rammed into an electricity pole. The driver left the vehicle and fled the spot.

Paramjit and his son died on the spot while his wife succumbed on way to the hospital. The Model Town police have booked the unidentified car driver. The victim family belonged to Paldi village and was going to pay obeisance at a religious place in Hoshiarpur town.

In another accident on Phagwara Road, two occupants of a Hyundai Eon were killed and three injured when their car was hit by a canter. The deceased, Vinay Kumar and Surinder Grover, belonged to Palampur in Himachal Pradesh. They along with their wives and a friend were going to Ludhiana. The injured were admitted to a private hospital and are reported to be out of danger.
