Three of family die in accident at Bathinda

Three members of a family died in a road accident on the Bathinda-Talwandi Sabo road late Wednesday night while two others were injured when Tata Indica taxi (HR 44 C 7421) they were travelling in hit a roadside tree after an attempt by the driver to save a stray cattle.

The victims have been identified as Satpal Garg, 60, his wife Shimla Devi, 55, and her sister-in-law Kirna Rani, 50, all residents of Nai Basti locality here.

The accident took place at about 12 midnight when they were coming back to their home in the city after attending a religious function in Talwandi Sabo in the hired taxi. The injured have been identified as Nauyhar Chand, brother of deceased Shimla Devi, and his wife.

Head Constable Gurcharan Singh at Talwandi Sabo police station said that Vicky, driver of the taxi, told the police that a stray cattle came across the vehicle all of a sudden about two km from Talwandi Sabo town towards Bathinda and, in an attempt to save the animal, he lost control of the vehicle that hit a tree.

Satpal died on the spot while the other two victims succumbed to their injuries in a hospital. The condition of two injured is stated to be stable. Bodies of the victims have been handed over to the family after conducting post mortem and inquest proceedings.
