Three inmates of the Ludhiana Central Jail who escaped from the prison early Thursday morning were arrested again by the police in the afternoon.
Jail officials said the three inmates, including two undertrial prisoners, scaled the wall of the prison with the help of a rope and jumped outside in the wee hours of Thursday.
They included Ram Kumar alias Ram Jane of Maharajganj district in Bihar, who was convicted in a loot case. The other two were undertrial prisoners identified as Amit Kumar of Bareily in Uttar Pradesh and Ravi Kumar alias Vicky, a resident of Ludhiana.
They said a fourth inmate also attempted to flee but he failed to climb the wall and was caught by the jail staff.
The police later nabbed all the three prisoners from Thandari area in the city where they were sitting near the railway track waiting for a train to flee the city.
Meanwhile, a jail warden had been suspended in this connection, the officials added.
