Setting an example for others, Shiromani Akali Dal candidate from Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency Pawan Kumar Tinu on Friday filed his nomination papers in a simple ceremony without the usual pomp and show of politicians to attract media attention.

Accompanied by senior SADBJP leaders from Jalandhar district, the SAD candidate reached the office of the returning officer by driving his own car.

Forest minister Chunni Lal Bhagat, jails minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, chief parliamentary secretary KD Bhandari, former minister Manoranjan Kalia, Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh, Nakodar MLA GS Wadala accompanied the SAD candidate in another car.

The SAD candidate went into the deputy commissioner's office with only four leaders (Bhagat, Phillaur, Bhandari and Kalia). Even Kalia had to come out of the office of the RO when Tinu's counsel entered the office to complete a formality.

Tinu filed his papers without any covering candidate.
