For the first time, Tirupati Balaji (Lord Vishnu) would come to the holy town of Kurukshetra on March 8 as the Tirumula Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, has decided to hold the annual wedding ceremony of the deity here for the first time.
Lord Vishnu's marriage with 'Bhudevi' and 'Sridevi' would be held at Purshotam Pura Bagh at the holy Brahmsarovar here.
Notably, a Balaji temple is being built by the TTD on the banks of Brahmasarovar here at a cost of `30 crore. Special granite stone is being brought from Tamil Nadu to construct the temple by the end of this year.
A TTD team visited the site along with the deputy commissioner and other senior district officials to decide about various arrangements required to be made for the purpose as a number of VVIPs are likely to attend the function.
The Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) has been given the responsibility to organise the function in collaboration with the TTD.
Prakash Babu, an official of the TTD, disclosed that it would be for the first time that marriage 'mahotsav' of Lord Vishnu was being organised in the northern part of the country.
The mahotsav would be organised at Delhi on March 7, Kurukshetra on March 8, Ludhiana on March 9 and Dehradun on March 10.
He said that though devotees are allowed to participate in this marriage mahotsav at the Balaji temple in Tirupati by booking on payment, the participation here would be free of charge.
However, he said that participants would not be allowed to carry any leather item on their person. Prasad required to be distributed here would be brought from Balaji temple, Tirupati, he added.
