In an apparent move to woo the media ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader KD Singh on Tuesday assured to provide free residential accommodations to journalists, if voted to power.
The industrialist-turned-Rajya Sabha member, Singh at a press conference here said that TMC would also extend pension scheme for the journalists from the government funds.
Singh was in the city to open state office of the party at Sector 6. Last year, Singh had opened TMC's local office at railway road but it was shut down after several leaders quit the party.
Meanwhile, Singh conducted a road show from Sonepat to show his party's strength. Singh, who has huge financial interests in various industries including aviation, hospitality, healthcare and media, said that journalists of Haryana were extraordinarily courageous in reporting against corruption and deserve special treatment from TMC.
"If voted to power, TMC would implement both welfare programmes for the scribes within 30 days of assuming office. journalists (media) should question the politicians who make lip services on extending welfare facilities to the journalists during election time but never implement the same," said Singh, adding that candidates for all 10 LS polls for Haryana would soon be announced.
Singh said that TMC favours to extend benefits of reservation to the Punjabi-speaking community of Haryana.
He said that Punjabis had contributed significantly in the progress of Haryana but their rights were never
protected by the respective governments.
