Even as the Election Commission announced the next Lok Sabha elections, the Congress-led state government on Wednesday kicked off two projects in this district through video-conferencing.

After the commission announces the elections, the model code of conduct comes into force, under which no new projects can be undertaken.

On Wednesday morning, union minister for commerce and industry Anand Sharma laid the foundation stone of a Rs 27-crore spice park by interacting with the district deputy commissioner and chairman of the Central Spice Board through video conferencing.

Chief minister Virbhadra Singh also talked to Sharma through video conferencing, an official spokesman said.

The CM inaugurated a campus of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB)-4 at Jangel Beri by interacting with the battalion Commandant through video conferencing in the morning.

District administration sources said both functions were earlier scheduled to be held on Wednesday afternoon.

However, the Election Commission's announcement in the morning forced the government to get the projects sanctioned and launched in a hurried manner.
