Most villages along the river bed in Ferozepur and Fazilka have been flooded and some have been cut off from civilization, yet no government officials has tried to ensure that some aid reaches them, claim villagers.
Sensing the urgency of the situation, a National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) has arrived in the area on the request of the district administration.
"The 35-member team will camp at the flood-hit areas for 10 days," claimed Ferozepur DC Manjit Singh Narang,
"Floods occur every year, yet no concrete steps are taken to ensure that we can be free of this calamity," said Mal Singh, 62, a nambardar of Kaluwala village, which can only be reached via a motorboat.
The village was flooded 10 days ago, yet no assistance has reached them yet, rue villagers.
As most of the 400 houses were kuccha, villagers demolished them so that they can save the raw material used in setting up the shack. Otherwise, the floods would have washed away all, claim village elders.
More than ten villages including Nihala Lavera, Tendi Wala, Bhakra, Sunder Bhatti, Kaluwala, Talli Gulam, Ghatti Khunder and Bhakra etc are cut off from all access to the land.
"We, the flood victims, are even deprived of basic amenities of life like medicine, fodder for cattle," said a victim.
On the situation in Kaluwala village, Narang claimed that a naib tehsildar had visited the area in a BSF boat and relief work would start soon.
Following enhance of water discharge from Hussainiwala headworks i.e 1,17,000 cusec, flood situation in Fazilka is quite critical, but access bt road was still available there, except the Mohar Jamsher village, which is surrounded by water.
Mohar Sona, Ram Singh Bhaini, Jhanger Bhaini,Gulana Bhaini, Mahatam Nagar, Teja Rhuela, Dona Nanaka and Kawanwali Patan are the flood-hit villages in the region.
