To mark the World Tobacco Day, various events were organised by the local civil as well as medical authorities as part of the anti-tobacco campaign here on Friday.
Arwind Pal Singh Sandhu, additional deputy commissioner (development), while launching the campaign, called on all to quit the habit of consuming tobacco, be it in any form.
Accompanied by civil surgeon YK Gupta and sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Sundeep Singh Gra, Sandhu led the oath ceremony in which several people of the city participated. It was followed by a signature campaign against the deadly habit.
Speaking on the occasion, Gupta highlighted ill effects of the consumption of tobacco.
Students of various local schools participated in an awareness rally and took part in a procession which passed through various areas of the town, informed Ankush Bhandari, the official spokesperson of the local health department.
