Tarn Taran village

A two-and-half-year-old child was thrashed to death allegedly by his uncle at Kalla village, 10km from Tarn Taran, on Sunday.

The accused, Jai Parkash, is husband of the child mother’s sister. Mother of the child, identified as Chhotu, had a dispute with her husband and was living with her sister Geeta. The family had migrated from Uttar Pradesh. “My son was playing near the place where my sister’s husband was having breakfast on Sunday. Suddenly he started beating him up and strangled him to death,” said the aggrieved mother in her complaint to the police.

The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Sadar station house officer Yadwinder Singh said the accused did not thrash the child with an intention to kill him, so he has been booked under Section 304. The police have launched a hunt to nab him, he added.
