Four days after Rajwinder Kaur Bhagike, sitting MLA from Nihal Singh Wala, held a rally to attack Punjab agriculture minister Tota Singh for ‘conspiring’ to deny her ticket for the upcoming election, Singh on Wednesday held a similar rally here to counter the charges.
In the show of strength at Takhtupura Sahib gurdwara, he was accompanied by Shiv Ram Kaler, sitting MLA from Jagraon who has now been allotted ticket from Bhagike’s constituency.
After being denied ticket this time, Bhagike in her rally had accused Tota Singh of pressurising the high command to deny her ticket and instead declaring an “outsider” candidate from her constituency.
Attacking Bhagike the agriculture minister said that party president Sukhbir Singh Badal declared candidates after a survey and that the party fielded Kaler with Bhagike’s consent.
“The party high command had informed Bhagike that she will not be allotted ticket this time. She agreed to this with a condition that the party can give ticket to anyone except Amarjit Kaur Sahoke,” he said. Sakhoke has been allotted ticket from Jagraon.
He said that by organising a rally against the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for denying her ticket, Bhagike has not only “betrayed the party but also public”.
Speaking on the occasion, Khanmukh Bharti, a SAD worker, accused Bhagike of “extorting money” from the police and tehsildars.
“Bhagike has failed to do anything for the welfare of constituency in her five -year term. Instead she increased her own property,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, appealing for votes Kaler said, “I am son of a common man and after serving Jagraon with honesty, I will serve Nihal Singh Wala in the same manner.”
