The state vigilance department officers on Thursday arrested an alleged conduit at Jaggi Colony here on a charge of accepting `1 lakh as bribe on behalf a Haryana police sub-inspector.

They claimed to have gathered from accused Harvinder Pal Singh "Pinki" that he had come to collect the money for Yamunanagar-based special staff sub-inspector Naresh Kumar. A man named Jaspal Singh had complained to the vigilance department that the SI had demanded Rs 4 lakh from him to bail him out in a car theft case, and this `1 lakh was the first instalment of that.

The SI got a hint of the trap and escaped but a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him, a source in the vigilance department has said, adding that corruption allegations had been laid against the sub-inspector even earlier. "The investigations have started and a hunt is on for the other accused," said an officer.
