A tractor-trolley mowed down an unidentified man on the Tajpur Road on Sunday morning.

The accused fled the spot after the incident. The Division Number 3 later identified the accused as Gurmel Singh of Bhamian Kalan village.

He has been booked under sections 279 (reckless driving) and 304A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. The police made an announcement in surrounding areas for identification of the deceased, but to no avail.

According to police, the victim, who seemed to be in his forties, was crossing the Tajpur Road on Sunday morning, when a tractor-trolley loaded with sand, hit him from back and crushed him to death, before fleeing the spot.

Passers-by informed the police, following which a police team reached the spot and initiated investigation.

According to sub-inspector Mukesh Kumar, incharge at Dharampura police post, said the police were also investigating to know whether the accused was carrying sand illegally or he possessed permission.
