More than 100 members of the Valmiki community on Sunday blocked traffic for two hours at Old Bus Stand Chowk here in protest against the police failure to arrest the accused in a case of caste-ist remarks. Members of the victim's family were part of the protest. Dihati Mazdoor Sabha president Darshan Hahar, Sushil Sondhi of the Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Caste Morcha, Safai Karamchari Development Board director Deepak Tellu, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Surinder Kumar addressed the protesters. Police were accused on not arresting accused Vijay Kumar; his wife, Anita; son, Abhay; and daughter, Aina, in a case registered on October 25, to which other sections were added on December 12. Phillaur deputy superintendent of police Sarabjit Rai pacified the agitators.
