A team of traffic police led by district transport officer (DTO) Anil Kumar Garg issued challans to 35 persons, including a woman excise and taxation officer (ETO), tehsildar and a nayab tehsildar, at a special check-point on Ferozepur road near Gurdev Hospital on Saturday.

The vehicle of tehsildar Baljit Singh, deputed in Ferozepur, was stopped at the check-point as the car had a blue beacon on it. When asked about the permission for using blue beacon, Baljit replied that he served Ludhiana for a long period of time. He was issued challan. The tehsildar paid the fine at the spot.

The car of naib tehsildar of Jalaldiwal was also bearing blue beacon and he too failed to produce permission for the same so he was also challaned by the police.

Third car having blue beacon to be stopped at the check-point was of a woman excise and taxation officer (ETO) posted in Ferozepur. The woman said that she was on government duty so could use the beacon but she was also issued challan on the spot.

The police didn't disclose the names of the ETO and naib tehsildar.

Meanwhile, an inebriated woman driving a car was also made to halt at the check-point. She refused to follow the instructions and when the police tried to conduct alcometer test on her, she created drama at the spot. She also refused to disclose her name and address. A man accompanying her introduced himself as her cousin and tried to pressurise the police but the cops slammed a challan and impounded the vehicle.

DTO Anil Garg said those violating norms were challaned without hesitation. The team also impounded three bikes for not producing documents. Vehicles with tinted glass and those without vehicle documents were also not spared.
