To improve traffic management and strengthen patrolling in the city, police commissioner Pramod Ban has made changes in the traffic and police control room (PCR) motorcycle wings.
Ban has made four separate teams of traffic police and PCR motorcycle wing and appointed separate incharges of inspector rank for each team.
The police chief said the police commissionerate in Ludhiana was divided in four zones and officers of additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) rank were taking care of their respective zones. The PCR and traffic teams will work in these zones and take care of traffic management and patrolling there. The zone incharge will report to ACP traffic
Earlier, only one officer of the rank of inspector used to handle traffic and PCR motorcycle patrolling in the whole city.
The police commissioner said the force had been distributed among the four zones according to the areas. In emergency, the force can be increased in one particular area. The teams will manage traffic in their respective area and will also work on accident-prone areas.
“The teams have been told to identify the factors behind road mishaps in the area and to work for rectifying them. The PCR and traffic wing will coordinate in patrolling and traffic management,” said the police commissioner.
