A cop who was active in nailing several illegal autos plying in the city was transferred on Thursday.

The cops identified as constable Paramjit Singh was cracking down against illegal autos for the past one week.

Hundreds of autos were impounded by the traffic police during the week in which Paramjit had also challaned at least 20 autos.

The cop is posted as munshi in the office of traffic police. Orders of his transfer even shocked higher officials of the traffic wing who have even asked the police commissioner to rollback the orders.

It is apprehended that auto mafia, which is operating in the city openly, is behind the transfer.

Sources also confirmed that assistant commissioner of police (ACP), traffic wing, Richa Agnihotri had also asked the police commissioner to rollback the transfer orders.

Surprisingly, it was a single out transfer that has raised suspicion behind the reason of transfer as no other official has been transferred.

“The official has impounded several autos in the past one week. The auto menace has always been in the limelight due to the problem of traffic jams it causes,” said a senior police official.

On Wednesday, at least 19 illegal auto rickshaws were impounded during the drive against illegal autos.
