The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday declined for the time being the interim anticipatory bail plea of Amrik Singh Nagpal, a resident of Chandigarh and director of Pristine Hotels & Resorts Ltd in the matter of illegal felling of 477 trees in Tara Devi. The bail application was listed before justice PS Rana.

The court said that in view of the gravity of offence, an interim anticipatory bail could not be granted for now. However, it directed the police to submit its report before next date of hearing that was fixed for December 24.

The company had entered into an agreement with Ms. Parminder Kaur, owner of the private land in Taradevi adjoining forest land on which 477 trees including 7 'deodar' trees and 470 'bann' trees were found to have been felled in second week of November.

In this case, state government had suspended five officials in this case and matter is being investigated by the Shimla police.
