Tributes paid to freedom fighter on anniversary

A tribute programme was held in memory of late Dewan Jagdish Chandra, first MLA of Ludhiana, on occasion of his fifth death anniversary, at Dewan Hospital, Ludhiana on Friday.

President, Freedom Fighters' Organisation of Punjab, Devki Nandan Khar was the chief guest on the occasion. Two-minute silence was observed at the outset in memory of recently departed imminent freedom fighters Daya Kishan Jain, Hazara Singh and Jasdev Singh Jassowal. Speakers emphasised upon the hardships faced by these freedom fighters.

"There were and there are few leaders like Dewan Jagdish Chandra who kept nation and welfare of people ahead of personal gains, including power and money," said Khar.

Secretary, Mahaveer International, Sushil Kaura presented a resolution passed by their organisation to keep the memory of the freedom fighters alive by naming Sangat Road in Dewan Jagdish Chandra's name.

Secretary, Freedom Fighters' Successors' Organisation of Punjab, Dr Narotam Dewan, son of Dewan Jagdish Chandr, released an article in memory of his father and declared that he would write a book on the life of his father and release it in a years' time.

Vic-president, Freedom Fighters' Successors' Organisation, Punjab, Bharat Dewan said, "All the families of freedom fighters should get special freedom fighter family identity cards as a token of honour." President of the society Neeta Dewan thanked all participants.
