The Salem Tabri police have booked three men for allegedly duping a man of Rs 50 lakh on the pretext of getting him an LPG gas agency.

The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh of Partap Colony, Tarlochan Singh of Gobind Nagar and Sandeep Singh.

In his complaint, Kamaljit Singh of Sekhewal village said Sukhwinder Singh was his acquaintance, who told him that he was politically well connected and could help him land a gas agency. He also introduced his accomplices, Tarlochan and Sandeep, as officers who allotted gas agencies, he alleged.

Kamaljit said agreeing to Sukhwinder's offer, he paid him Rs 50 lakh in November 2014. However, the latter neither helped him get a gas agency nor returned his money.

Therefore, he approached the Salem Tabri police who registered case against the trio under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
