As a Delhi court convicted all four accused in the infamous Delhi gangrape case on Tuesday, in another shocking case, a two-year-old girl from Haibowal locality here was abducted and gangraped.
The girl, who was missing from her house since the wee hours of Tuesday, was found lying in pool of blood on the roadside on the Jassian Road area in Haibowal in the afternoon.
A passerby who witnessed the girl sounded the police. The police rushed her to the civil hospital, where the doctors confirmed rape and referred her to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
The girl told her mother that two men abducted her and raped her. On her mother's statement, the Division No 4 police have registered a case against the two unidentified men.
The victim's father, who is a labourer, said he was sleeping in their house and around 2 am when he woke up he found his daughter missing. The family started looking for her, but to no avail.
He alleged that the unidentified men also stole Rs 8,000 from the house. The two apparently intruded into the house with the intention of robbery. After stealing the money, they also abducted the girl who was sleeping beside her mother.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (city 1) Nilambari Jagdale said she, along with assistant commissioner of police, north, J Elanchezhian, and Division No 4 SHO Vinod Kumar, was investigating the matter. Their priority was to identify the accused and arrest them soon, she added.
