The city police have arrested two men after seizing seven stolen mobile phones and a sharp-edged weapon from them at Focal Point here on Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Charanjeet Singh alias Sagar, a resident of local Sarabha Nagar, and Sarbjot Singh alias Pali, a resident of Nurpur in the city.

Acting on a tip-off, Sanjeev Kumar, in-charge of Focal Point police post, put up a naka near Focal Point Chowk. The police asked a motorcyclist to stop but he tried to run away and was nabbed. During search, the police seized the mobiles and the weapon from them.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to having snatched the mobiles and also revealed the names of their other accomplices. The police said their main targets were the migrants who worked in the nearby factories.

Kumar said a case had been registered against them under sections 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to commit the theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property).

Kumar said they would be produced in the court of the duty magistrate and sent to judicial custody. He said they would arrest their accomplices soon.
