Two booked for rape attempt

The Dakha police booked two persons for attempting to rape a minor on Saturday. The accused are on the run, said the police.

According to information, the victim, a student of Class10, is a resident of Kular village near Mullanpur. She told police that the accused, Gurpreet Singh, called her out of the house on May 4 and allegedly took her forcibly to a nearby place. He reportedly called his friend Sandeep Kumar to accompany him.

She said that the accused took her on a bike and tried to rape her but when she raised an alarm, the accused fled the spot. According to her, the accused threatened her to keep mum.

The victim informed her parents, who reached the police station to lodge the complaint. After getting the medical examination conducted of the victim, the police booked the accused under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (threatening) of the IPC at Dakha police station.

Investigation officer Amarjit Singh said they have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.
