An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Manohar Lal and head constable Ram Pal were injured when they were attacked by a group of people at Phabda village near Rahon on Saturday night when they had gone there to settle a dispute between a couple.
The injured cops were admitted to the civil hospital. A case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common) has been registered against Paramjeet Ram, Jagtar, Yashpal and an unidentified person.
Investigation officer Surinder Singh said the cops had gone to Balbir Kaur’s house in Phabda village when she complained to the police that her husband Paramjeet Ram was thrashing her and her kids.
He said as the ASI and head constable entered Kaur’s house, Paramjeet and others attacked them with sharp-edged weapons and wooden sticks.
He said the villagers came to the cops’ rescued and took them to the hospital. He said raids were being conducted to arrest the accused.
