A two-day musical fest, 'Swaranjali', commenced on the campus of Shoolini University at Bhajhol in Solan on Thursday. The event is a combination of performances by famed classical musicians along with a musical competition among the students from nearby schools and institutions.
The event began on a soulful note with United Arab Emirates based vocalist Sanjoy Dey rendering his voice to various Indian classical ragas, including 'Miyan ki Tori' with Sumonto Chatterjee and Debashish Adhikari accompanying him on tabla and harmonium respectively.
The one hour musical performance mesmerized the music aficionados. It was followed by another performance by sitar maestro Subho Chakarborty.
The afternoon session was dedicated to the musical competition among the students. Students showcased varieties of musical nuances in the form of sufi songs, ghazals, bhajans, film and non-film songs. Over two dozen students from across ten schools participated in the competition.
Apart from cash vouchers, the winners will be given one to one session with the artists so as to develop their interest in Indian classical music, which symbolizes the rich heritage of our country.
The session will also give a chance to the musically inspired and aspiring youngsters to hone their skills further.
The second day of the musical fest will be dedicated for a workshop and lecture demonstration on Indian classical music.
