A retired colonel and a ten-year-old boy were killed and 12 others were injured in multi-vehicle collision after over 13 vehicles crashed on the National Highway 71 due to dense foggy conditions early Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Colonel (Retd.) Dharampal of Gurgaon and Vineet of Faridabad.

According to the police around 13 vehicles collided one after another on the Jhajjar-Rohtak stretch of the national highway near Gudha village, leading to a chain reaction of crashes. The wreckage was stretched for over 500 meters.

“The series of collision was triggered after a truck driver applied breaks because of low visibility due to foggy conditions, following which around 12 other vehicles rammed into the truck,” said Sumit Kumar, Jhajjar SP Sumit Kumar.

Kumar said two women were seriously injured and were admitted at PGIMS Rohtak while 10 others received minor injuries and discharged after first-aid.
