Ranjit Singh of Shahpur Patti village and Amrik Singh of Niamatpur village were arrested on Thursday for allegedly having abducted and raped a 16-year-old girl of Karyam village in this district. A local court remanded the accused to police custody for three days.

According to the FIR, the girl, her mother and brother had gone to sleep around 9pm on Tuesday. Around 11pm, the girl was found missing by her brother, who filed the complaint.

The family's search proved futile till Wednesday noon, when the girl was found allegedly abandoned near a canal. After she narrated what had happened to her, and a medical examination confirmed rape, a case had been registered against Ranjit (22) and Amrik (24).
