The Abohar police on Tuesday claimed to arrest two youth who along with their two other accomplices robbed a cotton farmer of Rs 1.7 lakh after firing at him on Monday night. Farmer Jagjit Singh along with his brother had started from their shop at Amalgarh village in a car.

While they had covered some distance, two motorcycle-borne youth with their faces covered stopped their car. They reportedly fire at the farmer and fled after snatching a bag containing Rs1.7 lakh. They left their bike on the spot.

The injured farmer was hospitalised and the motorcycle owner was identified as Gurpreet Singh. In the meantime, Gurpreet got himself hospitalised and claimed that some unidentified people had robbed him of the vehicle after injuring him on Monday.

However, police doubted Gurpreet's version and took him in custody. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime, said DSP Raj Kumar.

Gurpreet and his brother Amrit along with and Jagsir and Gurwinder had planned the loot and when their motorcycle was found from the spot, they concocted a story, added the DSP. A case has been registered against four people. Jagsir and Gurwinder are at large.
