The Amritsar Rural Police have arrested two persons in connection with the broad daylight snatching of Rs 20 lakh from an elderly woman and her grandson between Sathiala and Butala villages on May 22.

Those arrested were identified as Gurjinder Singh alias Jinni of Kamoke village and Tarsem Singh a resident Gharinda area. However, the cops were yet to recover the money snatched though they have seized one motorcycle used in the crime.

Three suspects reported to be the masterminds were still absconding.
"On May 22, Amolak Jeet Singgh was headed for Baba Bakala along with his grandmother to get the property registered in their name and to pay the outstanding amount to persons from whom they had purchased the property," said Jasdeep Singh, SP (headquarters), Amritsar Rural Police.

However, they were waylaid by three accused, who snatched the bag containing Rs 20 lakh.

"During investigations, we found that one of the three accused still absconding was close to the seller of the property. He knew about the pending payment, the venue where it was to be made and the route the youth and his grandmother were to take," the SP said.

The mastermind was allegedly involved in snatchings earlier also, and contacted his accomplices and planned the crime. Gurjinder Singh and Tarsem Singh, however, had no previous criminal record, Singh said. "Raids are on at different places to arrest the three absconding accused," he said.
