Two in Ludhiana police net for rape bid on 23-year-old woman

Two drunk man tried to rape a woman after they had offered her lift in their auto from Prof Mohan Singh Chowk (Aarti Chowk) around midnight on Diwali. They pushed her from the running vehicle near Saggu Chowk after allegedly attempting to rape her.

Two drunk man tried to rape a woman after they had offered her lift in their auto from Prof Mohan Singh Chowk (Aarti Chowk) around midnight on Diwali. They pushed her from the running vehicle near Saggu Chowk after allegedly attempting to rape her.

The onlookers rushed the woman to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where her condition is stated to be stable. The people also chased the accused but they escaped.

On Monday, the Division number 5 police traced the accused and arrested them, following CCTV footage. The accused have been identified as Manoj, 40 and Naresh, 25, both residents of Prem Nagar. The accused are employees of discotheque, bar and restaurant Las Vegas-2, near Punjab Agriculture University (PAU).

The case has been registered following the statement of an eyewitness Vinod Kumar. DCP, Investigation, Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, said prima facie the 23-year-old woman was standing at Prof Mohan Singh Chowk seeking lift. The accused who were passing through the area in a pick-up auto offered lift to her.

The accused took her to Prem Nagar at their rented accommodation, but they lost the key of the gate. They tried breaking open the lock, but failed as people gathered there and started questioning them about the woman.

The accused then took the woman along with them and fled from the spot. The eyewitness said that the accused attempted to rape her in the running vehicle, but failed, following which they threw her out and fled.

The DCP further added that the victim is not medically fit for recording her statement. The woman belongs to some other state and the police are trying to trace her relatives.
