Two killed, 15 injured as truck overturns near Kala Jaarh in Sangrur

Two persons were killed and 15 others injured when the truck they were travelling in overturned near Kala Jaarh village at Bhawanigarh, here on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Sinder Kaur (50) and Manjit Kaur (45). One Mithi Kaur (20) has been referred to Rajendra Hospital, Patiala. The other injured persons were discharged after being administered first aid at Bhiwanigarh.

The truck was on its way to Mansa from Naina Devi and was carrying devotees of Ghranga village in Mansa district.

According to the police, the accident took place when the pilgrims, who were sitting on the truck loaded with 'bajri', fell into a ditch due to caving in of the road berm. The truck driver reportedly lost control for making way to an oil tanker that was trying to overtake the ill-fated vehicle.

Investigation officer Subash Kumar said, "The police have booked a case under sections 279, 427, 337, 338 and 304A of the IPC against the unknown driver of the oil tanker."
