2 members of NRI family killed in road mishap near Adampur

Two members of a Begowal-based non-resident Indian (NRI) family were killed in a road mishap and two others sustained injuries when the Tata Indica car (PB08-BN-4243) they were travelling in was hit by an oil tanker at Khurdpur village near Adampur on the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur highway on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Mela Singh and his daughter-in-law Amandeep Kaur of Begowal in Kapurthala district. Mela Singh’s wife Jasvir Kaur and his son Lakhwinder Singh were injured and have been admitted to a private hospital. The bodies have been shifted to the civil hospital for post-mortem.

The family was on its way to Chandigarh get Jasvir’s medical examination done for the US visa. Lakhwinder, who married Amandeep around six months back, lives in the US and had come back home to take his parents and wife along. His parents also live in the US and were here for the past one year.

The truck tanker was heading towards the Indian Oil Depot at Suchi Pind. The driver, Santosh Kumar of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, fled the spot. A case under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) has been registered against him.
