Two Panipat residents were killed while three others were injured after their car rammed into a truck laden with iron rods near Bahomajra village in Khanna on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Jatin Gambir (25), who was driving the car, and Kirti (15). She was sitting on the front seat. Those injured are Kirti’s father Neeraj (40), grandmother Raj Rani (70) and brother Vaibhav (18). Jatin was their relative.

Sadar station house officer (SHO) Bhupinder Singh said, “The family was heading towards Noormahal to pay obeisance at a shrine. When they reached Khanna, Jatin failed to judge the length of iron rods protruding out of the truck moving ahead of them. As a result, the car rammed into the truck accidentally.”

“The rods pierced through their bodies. Jatin died on the spot, and Kirti breathed her last in the hospital,” the SHO said.

“Police and passers-by struggled a lot to remove their bodies from the car. Their family members are undergoing treatment at the hospital and their condition is stable,” he said.

He said, “A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered against the truck driver, who fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind.”
