A forest guard, Dharam Chand, and a schoolteacher, Prem Singh, were trapped at the Rohtang Pass when a violent storm suddenly hit the area on Monday.

Lahaul & Spiti deputy commissioner Beer Singh Thakur told HT: “The two were coming from Koksar and heading towards the Rohtang Pass when they were caught in the midst of a storm, leaving them stranded there. They spent the night in a hut that was built last year by the district administration for such emergencies. The hut had recently been renovated with some food items and fuel stored there. Due to the bad weather they decided to stay put in the hut and wait for the storm to clear and were rescued on Tuesday morning by a team stationed at Koksar.”
