Two pilgrims were killed and 44 others were injured when a truck they were travelling in overturned due to tyre burst on the Sangrur-Ludhiana road on Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as Ramti Devi and Niranjan Singh of Mansa. According to the police, 38 of the injured have been admitted to the civil hospital, Malerkotla, while 6, who were seriously injured, have been referred to Rajindra hospital in Patiala.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Ahmadgarh police station in-charge inspector Harvinder Pal Singh said that the pilgrims are residents of Mansa and they were coming back from Anandpur Sahib. The incident took place when their truck overturned after one of its tyres burst on the highway. Bodies of the deceased were handed over to the families.
