A day after seizure of 5 kg heroin, the state special operations cell (SSOC) allegedly seized 10 kg of heroin, arms and ammunition from two persons, identified as Avtar Singh and Sarwan Singh, both residents of Gurdaspur district, on Saturday.
Addressing a joint press conference, DIG (counter intelligence) Surinder Singh and SSOC AIG Satinder Singh said, "Working on a tip-off, a specially constituted police team headed by inspector Harwinder Pal Singh and inspector Balbir apprehended two persons from near Muradpur village on the Fatehgarh Churian road, where they were waiting to deliver the consignment."
A .30-bore pistol, a magazine and five live cartridges were also recovered from the two accused. Preliminary investigations revealed that they were active in the Gurdaspur and Amritsar areas.
The SSOC had, on Friday, nabbed a notorious smuggler, Sukhbir Singh, who had recently escaped from Amritsar jail, and seized 5 kg of heroin and a pistol from him.
On the basis of Sukhbir's confession, the police seized another five packets of heroin weighing 1 kg each and Rs 12 lakh, which appears to be the proceeds from Sukhbir's illegal drug trade.
