Two students held for theft of Rs 14 lakh

Police have arrested two students in connection with theft of Rs 14 lakh at a woman's house at Gonewal Mandi in August this year.

The accused Jaskaran Singh, a resident of Jeet Road, a civil engineering diploma student at Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology and Badanpreet Singh, a resident of Model Town, a student of Bachelor of Arts in Punjabi University, Patiala were nabbed at a naka set up at Nirvana T-point on a specific input.

Investigation officer ASI Devinder Singh said that the police had recovered a Chevrolet Cruze car from the accused, purchased using the stolen money and the desire for a swanky and luxurious lifestyle led the youth to commit the theft.

The woman was living alone in her house as she had been widowed and the couple had no children. Her house is near to house of great grand parents of the accused Jaskaran Singh and shocked at the incident, she is still undergoing treatment at the local hospital here.

The ASI added that a car bearing registration number PB 30 G 7997 had been nabbed from the accused.
"During interrogation, both the accused have revealed that they were allured into the theft by peer pressure and bought a new car from Muktsar," the ASI added.
