Two women die, 3 persons injured in bus-jeep collision near Hamira

Two women were killed and three other persons seriously injured in a collision between a bus and a Bolero jeep today morning near Hamira on the Amritsar-Jalandhar road. The jeep driver was among the injured.

Police sources said that Joginder Singh of Tarn Taran was returning home in a new Bolero he had brought from Zirakpur in SAS Nagar district when the vehicle collided with a private bus near Hamira at 10.30am. “Both the vehicles were being driven at high speed. The jeep was crushed badly, causing serious injuries to all its passengers,” said Iqbal Singh, SHO Subhanpur.

“All Bolero passengers were taken to the nearly SGL charitable hospital where Shanti (30) was declared brought dead. Tulsi (35) was referred to civil Hospital in Kapurthala where she succumbed to her injuries. The condition of other two women, Noori and Asha, and driver Joginder Singh was critical and all were referred to a private hospital in Jalandhar,” he added.

“The women had taken a lift in the jeep from near Verka milk plant and were residents of Indira Colony, Jalandhar,” he further added.

Police have registered a case and started investigations.
