In an acid attack that took place in broad daylight in Ludhiana, two women were injured while travelling on a rickshaw. The incident took place at Dugri area of the city where a woman and her maid were on their way to market when they were attacked by a miscreant with acid.

According to the police, Ranjeet Kaur, 37, who is a resident of Baba Deep Singh Nagar, and her maid Pooja, 20, were going to market when one Sandeep alias Sonu threw acid on them. The accused escaped from the spot. Both the women have been admitted to the civil hospital.

Station house officer (SHO) Satwinder Singh said that the accused was known to Ranjeet Kaur, a widow, and used to visit her house often.

"Sandeep was a known to Ranjeet and used to visit her house for a long time. Ranjeet has four children, including a daughter. So she asked Sandeep not to visit her home often," said Satwinder Singh.

He said that baffled over the attitude of Ranjeet, Sandeep apparently made a plan to take revenge. "An argument took place in the market before Sandeep threw acid on Ranjeet. Pooja, who was accompanying Ranjeet, was also injured in the attack," said Singh.

A case has been registered under section 307 of the IPC.
