Two wounded in attack on cash van in Hoshiarpur

Two security guards have been wounded after unidentified gunmen opened fire as they tried to loot a cash van of the State Bank of Patiala near Garhshankar area on the Hoshiarpur-Chandigarh road.

Police said the accused, at least four in number, chased the cash van carrying `31 lakh but fled as the security guards fired back at them.

The two injured guards - Jagdish Raj and Jaswinder Singh – have been admitted to the Hoshiarpur civil hospital. Their condition is said to be stable.

Senior superintendent of police Dhanpreet Kaur told HT the assailants had fled towards Behram in Nawashahr district.

She said the police had sealed all exit points and sounded an alert in the region.
