Panjab University's sexual harassment committee dealing with the case involving chairperson of University Business School (UBS) AK Vashisht and another faculty member Dinesh Gupta for allegedly threatening and sexually harassing an assistant professor at the department met on Friday.
The committee questioned nine individuals from the UBS, including the superintendent and the gateman. While the two alleged accused have already submitted their written reply in the case, the committee members also wanted to speak to the eye witness, a rickshaw puller, in the case.
But, the complainant once again failed to get the eyewitness before the committee and rather submitted a letter saying that her eye witness has a security threat. With no provision of giving any security, the university authorities had told the complainant that they would provide security to the witness, but even then the complainant failed to produce the eye witness.
The committee under pressure to submit the report in the case, is trying hard to record the evidence of the eye witness, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, the complainant submitted another complaint before the committee saying that the Dean University Instructions (DUI) Madhu Raka has been giving statements against her to the media and Raka should also be questioned.
A senior committee member said, “Examining the eye witness is important and we need cooperation from the complainant.”
Now, the committee has resolved that even if the eye witness is not examined, they would be submitting their report on Monday, which would be further submitted to the police for further reference.
Meanwhile, those from the UBS, who were examined by the committee on Friday, included professor Meenakshi Malhotra, Karmjit Singh, Meena Sharma, Suveen Gill, associate professor Gunmala Suri, superintendent Balbir Singh, clerk Ramapati Tiwari, gateman Somnath and head of another admission panel Tilak Raj.
Sources said all nine members have spoken in favour of Vashisht and Gupta, where they submitted how the entire episode looks concocted to them.
