Chinks in security at court complex here were exposed on Monday after an undertrial managed to flee after pushing away the cop accompanying him.

The constable was taking Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha to Bakhsikhana (lockup at court complex) after producing him before the court on Monday.

Lakha was booked for drug peddling by Koom Kalan police in 2010, and has been lodged in Ludhiana central jail since.

He was brought to districts courts for hearing of a case.

Dharampal, station house officer (SHO) at Division Number 5 police station, said during the hearing, the court ordered free legal aid to another undertrial, who was produced along with Lakha.

Following directions of the court, a constable was taking both of them to the free legal aid clinic, before taking them to the lockup.

Meanwhile, Lakha pushed the cop and fled the spot.

The police post at court complex was informed, following which check points were established at several places in the city and raids were initiated at his possible locus in the city.

This is the second such case in the past one month. On October 21, an undertrial, Inderjit Singh, who was brought from Sangrur jail for hearing at Ludhiana court complex, had outwitted the police personnel, and fled with help of his wife.

Earlier, on July 2, undertrial Kulwant Singh, accused of drug peddling, escaped from police custody in the court complex.
