A 20-year-old prisoner, undergoing treatment at Moga Civil Hospital, gave a slip to three cops, who reportedly had fallen asleep while on duty, in the intervening hours of Saturday.

Arshdeep Singh, 20, a resident of Manuke village in the district, was undergoing treatment since June 21 at the hospital. He was arrested by the Nihal Singh Wala Police on May 15 after recovering 250 grams of intoxicants from his possession.

A complaint was registered against him under NDPS act and the accused was sent to the sub-jail of Moga. As per the information, the night duty cops including constable Jagsir Singh, constable Jaswinder Singh, and a cop Kamaljit Singh had reportedly fallen asleep and at about 12.30am, taking advantage the prisoner escaped from the prisoner ward. A case of negligence has been registered against the trio.

Station house officer (SHO) Darshan Singh said that the police were conducting raids to nab the accused person and soon he would be arrested.

“We have booked trio cops for negligence and also Arshdeep for escape from confinement,” he added. SSP Harjeet Singh Tannu said that the three cops would be suspended and the departmental action would be initiated.
