Demanding issuance of appointment letters to 4,000 applicants who cleared the recruitment exam, unemployed linemen along with their families on Wednesday held a protest outside the min-secretariat here.

Under the banner of the Unemployment Lineman Union, the youth are protesting for the past many days against the state government for "not giving" appointment letters to 4,000 unemployed linemen for jobs in the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).

These linemen had come for the rally along with their families from across the state.

“We have cleared the exam conducted by PSPCL in January 2011. As many as 5,000 linemen were to be recruited by the PSPCL. However, the appointment letters were issued to only 1,000,” said Primal Singh, president of the union.

The PRTC contractual employees' union also extended support to the linemen. There was tight security in the city in wake of the rally.
