A man of Kahlwan village under Qadian police station was allegedly stabbed by his father-in-law as he married the latter's daughter against the wishes of the girl's family.

Talking to reporters at the local civil hospital, the family of the injured Jimmy said that about a year ago, Jimmy had married one of his neighbours against the wishes of the girl's family and since then the family had often threatened him of dire consequences.

On Wednesday afternoon, while Jimmy was going to the market, he was stopped by his father-in-law, who repeatedly stabbed him with a dagger before fleeing from the spot.

Jimmy was rushed to the civil hospital, where the doctors referred him to Amritsar.

The Qadian police station SHO said the police were investigating the case and he had sent a team of police officials to Amritsar to take the statement of the injured man.
