Union minister inaugurates solar plant, auditorium at GCG College

Union minister of state for home affairs, Kirren Rijiju who was in city on Friday said Chandigarh would get more funds in the next two-three years and would develop into a model city for tapping solar energy in the country.

Union minister of state for home affairs, Kirren Rijiju who was in city on Friday said Chandigarh would get more funds in the next two-three years and would develop into a model city for tapping solar energy in the country.

Inaugurating a solar plant at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 42, Rijiju said Chandigarh would get all possible help from the central government for the growth of the city. “Funds are being provided for the pilot project to tap solar energy. The city will get more funds to for such projects in the next two-three years,” he added.

Rijiju also inaugurated an auditorium at the college built at a cost of `5 crore. Speaking on the occasion, local MP, Kirron Kher said she would make all efforts to make Chandigarh the first smart city in the country. She expressed her happiness to be working toward the city’s development.Advisor to the UT administrator, KK Sharma, in his welcome address said solar energy had been one of the key areas of focus in the city. Meanwhile, both Rijiju and Kher were highly impressed by the cultural programme held by the college students.
