Two unidentified persons unsuccessfully tried to break open an ATM of Central Bank of India, situated in the thickly-populated Chakri Bazar area here, late on Monday night.
Bank manager Mohinder Pal said the shopkeepers nearby informed him about the incident. The thieves took away the CCTV camera installed in the ATM centre but the entire incident had got already recorded in the hard disk.
The footage shows two persons entering the ATM cabin at 3.30 pm. One went out to keep an eye on the road, while the other tried to break the ATM with a brick. After failing, he took the CCTV camera along with him.
The bank manager said that `8 lakh was loaded in the ATM on Monday.
After getting the information, a police team led by ASI Sawinder Singh reached the spot for investigation. A case has been registered against the unidentified persons.
In another incident, two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons snatched a woman's purse from near Sukha Singh Mehtab Singh Chowk on Tuesday. A police check post is situated just a few metres away from the spot. Eyewitnesses said that the bike was sans number plate.
Victim Prabhjeet Kaur of Buttar village said that she along with her daughter was going towards the bus stand after consulting a private doctor when the miscreants targeted them. The purse had Rs 2,500, a mobile phone and some medicines in it.
City SHO Harit Sharma reached the spot and alerted the cops deputed in the area but it yielded no results.
