Accusing the boy and his family of demanding Rs 5 lakh as dowry just before the marriage on Tuesday, a girl in the Chheharta area refused to solemnise marriage and asked the boy and his family to leave the wedding venue.

After the incident, the girl’s family approached police and demanded stern action against the boy and his family. Police said the boy and the girl had come into contact through a social networking site. The family of the boy belonged to Luckknow in Uttar Pradesh. However, the boy was living in New Zealand for studies. The marriage was fixed for Tuesday at a resort on the Attari Road. However, the girl’s family asked the boy and his family to leave the site after money was reportedly demanded. Many guests were on the spot when the incident took place.

SHO, Chheharta, Harish Behl said, “We have received a complaint from the girl’s family and efforts are on to trace the boy’s family to record their statements. Allegations are that the boy’s family demanded Rs 5 lakh just before the marriage and perturbed over this, the girl asked them to leave the place.” We are verifying the matter and action will be taken if the allegations are found to be true, said the SHO.
